DIY Collage for an Engagement

DIY Collage for an Engagement thumbnail
Engagement photos can be gathered and presented in one piece as a collage.

A collage is a collection of correlating photographs or images arranged in an attractive manner, which serves as a simplified scrapbook. If you want to create a special collage for an engagement, you need to collect various photos of the featured couple as well as choose a surface on which to create the collage. You can choose any hard, flat surface, including a poster board, large sheet of card stock or any other sort of thick mounting surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the mounting board of choice on a flat working surface.

    • 2

Arrange the photos of choice over the board in an attractive manner. For an engagement, you could dedicate one side of the board to the pre-engagement life of the bride-to-be, the other side to the groom-to-be and the middle for photos of the couple together throughout their relationship. You also could choose to place the photos in small groups that are scattered evenly over the board.

    • 3

Trim the photos with scissors to make them fit together as you desire.

    • 4

Secure the photos to the board one by one, by applying a small dollop of decoupage glue to the back and pressing it against the board in the chosen spot.

    • 5

Decorate the board around the photos as you wish. You can draw designs or write captions with craft markers, paint fun borders around the photo clusters or cover the board in love-themed decals or stickers.

    • 6

Paint a thin, even coat of decoupaging glue over the entire board, covering all the photos and added designs using a sponge applicator.

    • 7

Allow the glue to dry completely. Don't worry about the glue appearing solid white during and after the application. As it dries, it will harden into a completely see-through finish that will protect the photos from getting scratched or torn.

Tips & Warnings

  • Decoupage glue is available in either a shiny or matte finish. Choose your finish according to the vibe you're going for with the collage. The shiny looks great over brightly colored designs and photos while matte complements more serious tones, such as black and white.
