DIY Pixel Qi Screens

Pixel Qi is a company that manufactures a special LCD display designed for laptops. These displays have the ability to convert to a tablet reader display at the flip of a switch. That means that if you are trying to use your netbook outside in the glaring sun, you can flip the switch and the screen becomes like that of a Kindle. This greatly reduces glare but you need to first install the LCD in your netbook before you can use it.

Instructions

    • 1

Power off your netbook and unplug the battery pack from its compartment on the bottom of the unit.

    • 2

Remove all screws from the plastic bezel (frame) that surrounds the LCD screen of the netbook. These screws are usually located along the top and bottom of the bezel.

    • 3

Pry the bezel off the screen by the corners.

    • 4

Remove all screws from the sides of the screen itself.

    • 5

Lift the screen out of its housing and unplug the ribbon cable that runs from the computer to a port at the back of the screen. Set the netbook screen aside.

    • 6

Plug the ribbon cable into the port at the rear of the Qi screen. Make sure the Qi screen matches the dimensions of your netbook and is compatible with it. This information can be found on the box of the Qi screen.

    • 7

Fit the screen in the netbook housing and replace the screws.

    • 8

Replace the bezel and screws. When using your netbook you can now push the button at the bottom of the screen to turn it into its reader mode.

Tips & Warnings

  • Removing the screen on your netbook will void the warranty.
