Show off your skills as a presenter by stepping out in front of the slides.

Sight is the primary sense for human beings so using visual communication is a strong way to encapsulate your message. PowerPoint has been able to show still images since it was created in 1985 but its video capabilities weren't very good until the 2010 version came out. Using only PowerPoint you can create a fade transition to move between video clips and your still slides. Now your video can claim its rightful place in your next PowerPoint presentation.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch PowerPoint and open the presentation where you want the video. Click on the slide where you want the video to play and click on the "Insert" tab in the Microsoft Office ribbon.

    • 2

Click the "Video" button and choose "Video from File." Browse to the location of the video and double-click on it to insert it in the PowerPoint presentation.

    • 3

Click on the video on the slide to select it, then click on the "Video Tools: Playback" tab in the ribbon. Click in the box labeled "Fade In" located in the "Editing" section. Type in the number of seconds for the transition into the video. Click in the "Fade Out" box and type in the number of seconds for the ending transition.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the "Trim" tool on the Video Tools: Playback ribbon to cut the video down to just the amount you need for your presentation. Or if you want to keep the whole video but want to skip around you can use the "Bookmark" tool to pre-select places in the video to start.

  • Video files inserted into a PowerPoint presentation will increase the size of the presentation which could make it difficult to email.
