How to Hide Thinning Hair Without People Noticing
Thinning hair, whether you are male or female and regardless of its cause, can make a person feel embarrassed. Embarrassment over thinning hair and balding often causes people to treat their hair in ways that they think hide the problem, but which often make it worse. While it is not possible to completely hide thinning hair (without wearing a hat or wig), it is possible to create the illusion of length, thickness and volume so as to minimize any balding or thinning that is experienced. Does this Spark an idea?

Wear a short hairstyle. Many people with thin hair believe that long hair will help them to hide bald spots. Long hair, however, exacerbates the problem because long strands tend to separate. As strands separate, the scalp is exposed, and thinning hair and baldness become more apparent. Short hair, with layers, will create volume, making it harder to the scalp.

Use the proper styling products. People with thin hair should use shampoos and conditioners that contain volumizing ingredients and then apply small amounts of styling aids in the cream and lotion formulas. Avoid using gel or excessive product because it is too heavy and will weigh down hair, causing baldness to be easily seen. Avoid products that contain humectants, or moisturzing ingredients, as these will also weigh down strands and cause them to separate.

Apply hair color. All-over hair color or highlights can be used to mask thinning hair and baldness. When color is applied to the hair, it plumps up the strand creating thickness. It is recommended that a professional apply the hair color because he can select a solution that won't damage hair that is already weak. The colorist will also know the best color to apply which is very important. Color that is darker than needed will cause thinning to be apparent because of the contrast with the scalp while lighter colors will cover up baldness.

Blow-dry hair upside down. Flipping hair upside down and lifting the hair against the growth line creates volume while blow-drying hair in the same direction as growth causes hair to lie flat. Apply a blast of cold air to hair when dry to set in the volume.

Tips & Warnings
Consult a doctor anytime you experience significant hair loss. While hair loss can be caused by diet or may be hereditary, it can also be a sign of a hormone imbalance, a thyroid disorder or an abnormal amount of stress. A doctor can prescribe medication to stop and reverse such hair loss.
