No matter how much detergent you use, the odor may not go away, Treating the item with simple household cleaning materials may be necessary. Knowing the secret to removing stubborn stains and odors goes a long way in "rescuing" older clothing items that are still useful. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the gloves inside out and lay them out. Since the stale odor of athletic gear comes from sweat, treating the surfaces that have the most contact with sweat is the best way to mitigate this smell.

    • 2

Sprinkle baking soda over the inverted gloves, on both sides. If you have a bowl or container that can fit both gloves neatly, fill the container up with baking soda and bury the gloves in the baking soda. Let the gloves sit in the baking soda for a day or two.

    • 3

Shake the gloves off and put them in the washing machine, or wash by hand. Ideally, the baking soda will absorb the smell from the gloves and a washing should loosen up any residue.
