Instructions

    • 1

Wash and dry the fabric and onesie to preshrink them and remove any chemical residue from manufacturing.

    • 2

Iron the fabric and onesie smooth to prepare them for the applique process.

    • 3

Pick up a sheet of fusible web. You will notice there is a paper liner on both sides of the fusible web. Gently pick at the paper liner on each of the sides. One of the paper liners will peel back much easier than the other. Place the fusible web on a flat surface with the more easily removed paper liner facing down.

    • 4

Place the template on top of the fusible web and trace it with the pencil.

    • 5

Cut a rough circle around the image drawn on the fusible web, leaving a 1-inch border of fusible web around the drawn image. Set the fusible web aside.

    • 6

Place the applique fabric wrong side up on the ironing board.

    • 7

Pick up the fusible web and peel off the paper liner that does not have the image drawn on it. Place the fusible web with the image facing up on top the applique fabric.

    • 8

Iron the fusible web to the applique fabric. The adhesive will bond the fusible web and the applique fabric together.

    • 9

Pick up the joined fusible webbing and applique fabric and cut along the lines of the drawn image. This is the applique. Set it aside.

    • 10

Place the onesie on the ironing board with the front of the onesie facing up.

    • 11

Pick up the applique and peel off the remaining paper liner. Place the adhesive side of the applique onto the front of the onesie.

    • 12

Iron the applique onto the onesie. The adhesive will permanently bond the applique to the onesie.

Tips & Warnings

  • Simple designs, such as a flower, star or crown can be drawn freehand on the fusible web.

  • Silhouette photos, such as those of a dog, cat or airplane, can be found online. Print the photo on card stock. Cut it out and use it as a template for the applique.
