How to Cut a Song for a Sample
When listening to music, you may wish to take a section of the song to use as a sample. This is usually done by someone wishing to show their own music to other people or those looking to put a preview of their song onto their website. Taking a sample of a song can be done in a matter of minutes using free audio editing software that you can download for free online.

Start Audacity then click "File" and select "Open." Choose the song you would like to cut a sample from and click on the "Open" button.

Click the green "Play" button at top of the screen and play through until you locate the section you would like to use as a sample. Click the area of the music where the sample starts. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor left to highlight the rest of the song before the start of the sample. Press the "Delete" key to remove the part of the song before the same.

Click the end of the sample area. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor as far right as you can go.

Press the "Delete" button to move the rest of the song after the same. This will leave you with just your music sample.

Click "File" and select "Export." Give your music sample a file name and choose where to save it on your computer. Click the "Save" button to save the sample.
