How to Sew a Hippie Skirt
Although you can find hippie skirts in local stores, it can be difficult to find one that will fit the size, color and style that you need. Sewing a hippie skirt out of old clothes is one way of recycling old and unused clothing. Creating your own hippie skirt allows you to be creative, especially if you are using it as a costume for an event.

1
Decide on the length of the skirt, and cut the bottom portion of the jeans to that length. Provide at least ½ inch allowance for the hem.
-
2
Use the seam ripper to take out the center leg seams of the jeans. The two legs will serve as the front and back sections of the skirt.
-
-
3
Turn the jeans inside out. Sew the front and back sections together to create the skirt. Hem the bottom edges of the skirt using a zigzag stitch.
-
4
Design the skirt with embellishments. For example, cut patches from assorted fabrics with different colors and textures, and sew them onto the skirt. Alternatively, sew studs onto the skirt in various patterns. Use rhinestones, sequins, ribbons and other materials to design your hippie skirt.
