How to Change Everything on MySpace to Prevent Hackers
While Facebook is king among social networking sites, Myspace still enjoys a healthy following, ranking 102nd in American websites through Alexa.com in late 2011. Because of its popularity, Myspace remains a target for hackers who use commandeered profiles for phishing schemes to gain personal information. By changing a few of your settings on Myspace, you make your profile safer from hackers who trick your friends into clicking links and giving up their personal identification.

1
Type the URL for Myspace directly into the browser and avoid using links. Some hackers and scammers use fake sign-in pages to prompt you to release your username and password easily to them. If you receive an email from what looks like Myspace, with a link to your profile or sign in page, delete it and enter the URL yourself to avoid dealing with the possibility of hackers.

2
Change the password associated with your Myspace account. Most hackers work to break your password to gain access to your account, then change your password so you no longer have access. By creating a more sophisticated password, you make your account less of a target. The most complicated and impervious passwords are those that seemingly don't have a pattern of words, just random letters, numbers and characters.

3
Adjust your account settings to make your profile more private. With a higher degree of privacy, a hacker cannot assess your worth as a victim. You can change your settings by signing into your Myspace account, then clicking "My Stuff" and selecting "Privacy Settings." The most secure settings is to allow your profile to be viewed by approved friends only.
-
4
Delete suspicious links that appear in your inbox or on your Myspace profile. If your Myspace profile is public, a person doesn't need to be your approved friend to leave messages and links on your wall. These links could be dangerous, especially if they sign you out of Myspace. Remove posts and links from anyone you don't know or trust.
-
5
Accept only friends that you know. Myspace hackers might seek to gain access to your private profile by adding you as a friend from what seems like a normal person. These profiles they create are false, with fake pictures and information. Avoid giving out personal information by assessing friend requests and only accepting those who you know and trust.
