How to Highlight Sentences on a Kindle

Your Kindle synchronizes your highlights over 3G or Wi-Fi.

Your Kindle allows you to highlight sentences and other passages of text while reading an e-book, just like you’d highlight part of a paper book. Highlighted text appears underlined in the e-book. The Kindle also provides you with a list of all highlights you’ve made in a book, so you can see every important passage in the e-book. You can even view all highlights you’ve made in every e-book on your Kindle from your Kindle’s home screen. Amazon’s Whispersync feature automatically saves your notes to your Amazon account and synchronizes them across all your devices.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the arrow buttons on the five-way directional pad on your Kindle while reading an e-book to position the cursor at the beginning or end of the sentence you want to highlight.

    • 2

Press the button in the center of the five-way directional pad to start highlighting. The cursor becomes slanted and the message “Move Cursor to Create a Highlight” appears at the bottom of the screen.

    • 3

Press the left and right arrow keys to position the cursor at the other end of the sentence. The Kindle highlights an additional word each time you press an arrow key. Press the “Next Page” or “Previous Page” buttons to continue if the sentence is split across multiple pages.

    • 4

Press the button in the center of the five-way directional pad to save the highlight.
