How to Bring a Portfolio to a Career Fair

Career fairs give job seekers the opportunity to connect with numerous employers, and to make a positive impact on company recruiters. A portfolio is a necessity when going to job fairs, as it contains your resume, letters of recommendation, and all other documents that will help you land a job. By ensuring that you have the correct number of documents and that your portfolio is well-organized, you'll make yourself look professional and prepared.

Instructions

    • 1

Make numerous copies of your resume. As a general rule, bring at least one copy per company you’re interested in. If you’re unsure of how many employers you’ll be interested in, print off plenty of copies, such as 20 or more.

    • 2

Print copies of other documents that will help you make a positive impact when talking to employers, such as letters of recommendation, physical examples of your work, awards, documents and certificates. If you bring examples of your work, bring two or three different examples for each employer, if possible. For example, if you’re an artist, you want to leave the employer with multiple impressions of your work, not just one.

    • 3

Place all of your documents in a professional-looking portfolio. Make sure the portfolio is high-quality, such as one made of leather. Make sure that everything is in order so that you can easily provide recruiters with the necessary documents.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dress professionally. While your portfolio helps you provide recruiters with information about you, the way you dress says a lot too.
