Instructions

    • 1

Check your wedding gown for any wear and tear. Focus on the train area when checking for defects. Cover defects using lace and tea dye.

    • 2

Detach the wedding dress bodice from the skirt using the seam ripper. If the skirt has a lot of details at the back, use them for the christening dress bodice.

    • 3

Remove all the lace, ribbons, beading and buttons on the wedding dress.

    • 4

      Iron the wedding dress.

    • 5

Cut out a piece of material from the wedding dress with the scissors. The material should measure 31 inches in length and 64 inches in width.

    • 6

Pin the christening dress patterns on the fabric you have cut out from the wedding dress. Transfer all the markings on the patterns to the fabric. Some of the markings you should transfer include center line, pleats, notches and eases. The markings will direct you when sewing.

    • 7

Cut out the skirt, bodice and sleeves for the christening gown. You need two pieces for each part. Remove the pins after cutting out all the pieces. One of the bodice pieces should have a slit at the middle for the buttons.

    • 8

Gather the top edge of the skirt piece and fold it under the bodice piece.

    • 9

Pin the skirt piece to the bodice piece and sew them together. The seam allowance should be 1/4-inch.

    • 10

Pin the sleeve pieces on the bodice and sew them on. Fold the sleeve edges and add some lace for decoration.

    • 11

Hem the lower part of the skirt and add some lace or ribbon for decoration.

    • 12

Fold the edges on the slit at the back of the bodice and pin them. Cut out three button holes on one side and finish them. Attach three buttons on the other side.

    • 13

Sew on some lace or ribbon along the neck on the bodice.

    • 14

      Press the completed christening dress.
