How to Build a Lag Ring

Suspend items with lag rings and bolts.

Lag rings are threaded screws with a hole at the head end, accommodating a ring. These devices are used to hang plants, lighting or other household items. Although they can be purchased pre-assembled, you can build your own lag ring bolts and screws using simple hardware.

Things You'll Need

• Eye screw or bolt
• Stainless steel key chain split ring

Instructions

1. Locate the round loop, or eye, at one end of the eye screw or bolt.

2. Separate one end of the key chain split ring, as though you are about to slide on a key.

3. Slip the eye of the screw or bolt through the open side of the key chain split ring. Continue to rotate it around the ring, until is nestled freely in the opening.
