How to Make a Paper Box With Tape

Making a paper box with tape will help you practice basic paper-folding craft skills. Additionally, folding paper cubes is a good way to teach children about the differences between two- and three-dimensional shapes. When making a paper box with tape, it is helpful to begin with a two-dimensional template. This will help you cut and fold the paper box into a perfectly shaped cube.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a ruler and pencil to draw four equilateral squares in a parallel line, such that the bottom of each square borders the top of the square beneath. Note that the length of any one side cubed will be the volume of your paper box, so size the squares according to how large you want the box to be.

    • 2

Draw an additional two equilateral squares to the left and right of the second square in the parallel line, such that one side of each square borders the square beside it. This gives you a "T" shape that features four squares vertically and three squares horizontally.

    • 3

Cut out the template as a single piece, such that all of the squares remain connected. Be careful to cut exactly along the lines so that your paper box will be a perfect cube.

    • 4

Use the square in the center of the "T" shape as the base of the box. Fold all of the additional squares along their borders. Once the paper is creased, stand the squares upward at a 90-degree angle from the base. This gives you an open box with all of its sides in place.

    • 5

Fold the bottommost square over such that it completes the top of the box. Place a piece of tape along each edge of the box where the paper is not connected. All together, you will place seven pieces of tape to secure the sides and top of the paper box.
