How to Cut a 3-Foot Diameter Wood Circle
Cutting a 3-foot diameter circle in wood may be necessary to, for example, make a prop or a wheel to attach to a cart. One tool you may already have for this task is a jigsaw, which will allow you to easily cut the curves. To do this, you need to draw a pattern on a piece of wood such as plywood. Using a simple technique will enable you to draw a circle of almost any size.
Things You'll Need
- 4-by-8-foot plywood sheet
- Tape measure
- Nail
- Hammer
- String
- Pencil
- Jigsaw

1
Measure the length on one side of the plywood sheet with the tape measure. Make a mark with a pencil at 4-feet to indicate the center.
-
2
Measure 12 inches inward from the pencil mark. Tap a nail into the plywood with the hammer.
-
-
3
Tie one end of the string to the nail. Measure out 37 inches of string. Tie the other end of the string on the pencil. Adjust the knot so you have 36 inches between the pencil and the nail. Pull the string taught. The pencil should come to the edge of the plywood. Pull the pencil around the nail to draw a 3-foot circle.

4
Plug in the jigsaw. Position the blade on the edge of the plywood. Press the trigger and push the blade into the wood.
-
5
Apply pressure to the jigsaw and follow the outline of the circle. Have a helper hold the cut plywood to keep it steady until you have finished.
