How to Combine Bubble & Smoke Machines

When you think about a smoke machine, it likely reminds you of an eerie graveyard after dark. When you think about a bubble machine, it likely reminds you of a high school dance or some other festive occasion. These two concepts rarely blend. You can break with traditional concepts and use a smoke machine with a bubble machine to create an entirely new atmosphere when producing a stage event or when throwing a party in your home.

Instructions

Position a light fixture equipped with a colored halogen floodlight on the floor so that it faces the exhaust port on the smoke machine. Place the smoke machine and the floodlight near the side of the stage and angle the smoke machine so that the smoke will billow out onto the stage. If you plan to use the machine in a room for a party, position the smoke machine and floodlight under the table. When in use, the smoke will come out from under the table. The light will illuminate the smoke for you.

Position the bubble machine at the rear center of the stage. If you plan to use it in a room, position the machine against an open wall or in a corner. Do not cover cover the machine or place it under a table. Bubbles float up and needs open space above the machine to function properly.

Remove the bulb from the light fixture in the ceiling or wall sconce by rotating the bulb counterclockwise. Thread a colored halogen bulb into the light fixture by turning it clockwise in the socket. Use a colored bulb that will contrast with the halogen floodlight that you're using for the smoke. For example, if you use green for the smoke, use red for the bubbles. This will create a festive holiday atmosphere. For a spooky atmosphere, use a purple floodlight for the smoke and an orange light for the bubbles.

Turn on the smoke machine and the bubble machine simultaneously. As the smoke fills the room, it will reflect the light from the floodlight. As the bubbles rise, they will first reflect the light from the floodlight and then change to reflect the light from the lights in on the ceiling.
