How to Change Your Speakers From an iMac to Headphones
If you are in the mood to listen to some audio with your iMac, you might prefer to use headphones instead of the computer’s built-in speakers. The iMac is a desktop computer made by Apple, and it has a processor, optical drive, hard drive, speakers and backlit, color LED display combined into a single unit. The computer comes with a variety of software that you can use to listen to audio with headphones, such as iTunes, QuickTime and GarageBand.

1
Hold the edges of the iMac and turn it so its back is facing you.
-
2
Locate the audio out port on the back of the iMac on the left side, marked with an icon of headphones.
-
-
3
Insert the minijack plug on the end of your headphones cable into the audio output port. The iMac detects that you have plugged in the headphones and automatically diverts audio from the built-in speakers to the headphones.
-
4
Rotate the iMac so its front is facing you again.
-
5
Click the volume icon on the upper right of the Finder menu, and drag the volume slider down to lower the iMac’s system volume. Drag the volume slider to the left on the application you are using to listen to audio to lower its volume, so you won’t be playing audio excessively loud when you first put on the headphones.
