DIY Felt Poppy
Fashioning a felt poppy flower adds a never-fading pop of color to your décor. You can create a centerpiece for your dining room table featuring a collection of blood red or brilliant orange poppies, or fill a bowl with felt poppy blossoms for a low-maintenance bouquet for your living room. You can also attach a pin to the back of the poppy flower to use as a brooch or hat embellishment. Tack the flower to your shirt or jacket in place of a lost button for an oversized statement that is also functional.

1
Cut four 2-by-3-inch rectangles from a sheet of red or orange felt. Trim the corners of the rectangles so they are curved rather than pointed, to form the petals of the poppy.
-
2
Cut a 4-by-1/2-inch rectangle from a sheet of black felt. Cut 1/4-inch-long slits down one long side of the rectangle; you are fringing the edge.
-
-
3
Cut a 1-inch circle from the same color of felt that you used for the petals. Pinch one of the short sides of one of the petals to form a cupped shape with the petal. Apply hot glue to the pinched end and press it down 1/8 of an inch from the center of the felt circle. Position the petal so the cupped shape is curved in toward the center of the circle.
-
4
Shape the remaining petals in the same way. Add a petal to the circle so it is on the opposite side of the first petal and the cupped shape is facing inward. Attach the remaining petals in between the first two petals to form a round cup poppy.
-
5
Hold one end of the black rectangle. Roll the rectangle tightly so the fringed side is on one side. Use hot glue to secure the uncut end that is opposite to the fringed end. Attach the black felt with the fringed side facing up in the center of the poppy to complete the flower.
