How to Troubleshoot a Retractable Downdraft Vent
Proper ventilation is a key part of any cooking apparatus -- particularly if your cooker has been installed in a small room, in which smoke can easily build up and potentially set off a fire alarm. A properly working downdraft vent can go a long way to clearing any smoke or odors, but only if it is functional, which is something that can be affected by anything from loose fittings to a dirty filter. Verify the downdraft vent is receiving the power it requires to operate. This means you need to check the security of all wires going to and from the unit and ensure they are not frayed or otherwise damaged. In addition, check the breaker and reset it if necessary.

Confirm the unit is fitted securely in place if it is experiencing excess vibrations. It takes two or more people to move and install the downdraft vent due to its weight and all screws and bolts must be tightly in place.

Ensure the vent has proper clearance to the ceiling or floor. This needs to be done before installation. If it has not been considered, then a lack of space may not allow air to circulate properly. A reinstallation, in this case, may be required.

Clean the filters regularly to maintain the cleanliness of the vented air. To do this, place your fingertips in the embossment at the top for the filters and press down on them far enough for the tab at the top to clear.
Pull the filters to release them from their groove and clean them in a dishwasher or in a
hot detergent solution. Once the filters are dry, place them back securely in their groove.
