Your favorite jeans probably cost a lot and you want to preserve them as much as possible. Unfortunately, as time goes on, jeans can fade and lose their shape. Washing temporarily shrinks them but the harsh water and detergent cause the color to bleed out, leaving jeans looking worn and old. With a few tricks and tips, you can keep your jeans clean, well-fitted and looking their best. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Turn your jeans inside out and toss them in a washing machine with like colors or alone. Set the washer to a delicate or gentle cycle. Use a warm or cold water setting rather that hot, which will be too harsh on the color.

      Let the washer fill up half way, then put in 1/2 cup of mild detergent or detergent made especially for dark clothes. Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the soapy water to prevent color bleeding.

      Toss the jeans in the dryer on a low tumble, the heat will shrink them temporarily until your next washing.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you prefer not to wash your jeans, mist the sections of the jeans you want to shrink with a water bottle. Get them wet, but not dripping, and use a blow dryer to dry the wet areas, or toss them in the dryer for 10 to 15 minutes.
