How to Make Your Own Coat Rack That Can Be Disassembled
Creating your own wooden coat rack can be easy when using precut lumber purchased at your local home improvement store. Using wood dowels for construction makes the piece portable; you can assemble and disassemble the coat rack anytime you want to move it.

1
An electric drill makes drilling holes easy. Measure and mark all four wood squares at the exact center of the wood. Drill a hole dead center in each piece with an electric drill using a 3/4-inch drill bit. Drill completely through each piece.

2
Place the 12-inch wood on a flat surface to begin building the coat rack base. Apply a small, continuous bead of construction adhesive 1 inch in from the perimeter of the 10-inch wood, then center and stack it on top of the 12-inch wood using the adhesive to secure the two pieces together. Repeat this process for the 8-inch and 6-inch wood to create a base that resembles a pyramid

3
Mark both flat surface ends of the wood spindle at the exact center. Drill a 3-inch hole dead center into both ends of the spindle.
-
4
Use metal coat hooks to hang two items in the same space. Mark one end of the 4-by-4 wood at the exact center and drill a 3-inch hole dead center on the mark. Center a metal coat hook on one of the 6-inch surfaces of the 4-by-4 wood. Attach the coat hook with the associated screws and a screwdriver. Repeat this process for the other three metal coat hooks.
-
5
Glue one 6-inch dowel into the bottom of the pyramid-shaped base with construction adhesive. Let dry overnight.
-
6
Assemble the coat rack. Place the base on a flat surface, align the dowel on the base with a hole on the spindle, then push down until securely mounted on the base. Place a 6-inch dowel into the top of the spindle, then align the dowel with the hole on the 6-inch wood piece with coat hooks and push down until securely mounted to complete the assembly.

Tips & Warnings
Stain or paint the wood to complement your decor.
Be careful to clean up quickly if you get construction adhesive on something by mistake. Once the adhesive sets, it is very difficult to remove.
