How to Make Round Cloth Wine Glass Coasters

How to Make Round Cloth Wine Glass Coasters thumbnail
It;is simple for your guests to tell whose glass is whose with wine glass coasters.

You usually don't see a wine glass dripping condensation, nor a water ring left on a wooden table after lifting up a wine glass, but that doesn't render all wine glass coasters useless. Wine glass coasters still serve two functions. Firstly, they help distinguish one person's wine glass from another's when made from different fabrics. They also protect that fragile circular glass base of the glass from hard surfaces that can cause chips if not handled with care. So, use up some of your fabric scraps to create wine glass coasters for your next party.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the diameter of the bottom of one of your wine glasses. Use a compass to draw a circle on a piece of paper that is 1 inch larger in diameter than the wine glass's bottom. Cut the circle out with scissors

    • 2

Trace the circle four times on the wrong side of the cotton fabric with tailor's chalk. Trace the circle once on the felt. Cut out all the circles.

    • 3

Lay one of the cotton circles print side down on your work surface, and place the felt circle on top of it. Place a second cotton circle on the felt circle with the print side facing up. Fold the remaining two cotton circles in half with the print side facing out. Put the two folded circles together on top of the stack of circles so their folded edges come together in the middle. Pin the whole stack of circles together around the perimeter.

    • 4

Sew around the perimeter of the stack of circles with a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Remove the pins as you sew.

    • 5

Turn the coaster right side out by flipping it through the center opening where the two folded circles meet.

    • 6

Iron the coaster flat. Sew around it once more with an 1/8-inch seam allowance to hold it right side out.

Tips & Warnings

  • The coasters are machine washable.
