Make rolled fabric flowers in the shape of lollipops.

Fabric lollipop blossoms make creative and beautiful home décor accessories. Unlike real blossoms, these never wilt, and are easy to make in advance to give as a gift to a friend or family member. You can make the blossoms from layers of colorful, shaped fabric circles, or roll the blossoms from washcloths or squares of your favorite fabric instead. Rolled lollipop blossoms made from baby washcloths also make wonderful baby shower gifts for a special new mother.

Instructions

  1. Rolled Fabric Lollipop Blossoms

    • 1

Lay a washcloth on top of your fabric and cut around the shape. Cut out one shape for every fabric lollipop blossom.

    • 2

Fold over each rough edge and sew a running stitch to create smooth outer edges for the lollipop.

    • 3

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, and then in half lengthwise once more. Roll it up like a jellyroll and sew the end to the roll.

    • 4

Wrap a piece of clear or semi-transparent cellophane wrap around the roll and wrap an elastic band around the bottom to close the cellophane.

    • 5

Slide a wooden dowel into the cellophane opening and into the elastic to attach it. Tie a ribbon around the elastic band.

    Layered Fabric Lollipop Blossoms

    • 6

Cut out five circles from your choice of fabric. Choose brightly colored or swirl-patterned fabrics. Make the largest circle 3 inches in diameter, then cut the remainder of the circles successively smaller in 1/2-inch increments.

    • 7

Apply a very thin coating of clear glue over the back of each circle. Pinch the bottom center of the circle to make a cupped shape. Keep pinching for about 30 seconds and then repeat with each circle. Pick up the first circle and pinch again to keep the shape as the glue dries. Repeat with each circle two to three times. Let the glue dry thoroughly.

    • 8

Layer the five shapes on top of one another, with the largest on the bottom and the smallest on top. Hold a button with a swirl design or bright color over the top, center of the flower and sew to attach the button and join the layers of the flower together.

    • 9

Apply glue to the end of a lollipop stick or white wooden dowel and press it against the back, center of the flower. Hold for at least 30 seconds. Sew a few stitches around the dowel and into the fabric for extra strength.

    • 10

Repeat the above steps to make more lollipop flowers and insert all of the stems into a colorful vase.

Tips & Warnings

  • When making the rolled lollipops from washcloths for a baby shower, do not sew the end of the roll. Wrap the cellophane around immediately after forming the roll; the cellophane will hold the roll closed.
