How to Hook Up an Apple Computer to an LCD Projector

Making a presentation is usually made easier with the use of a LCD projector. A large audience can view your visuals when using a projector as opposed to using a computer or laptop screen. Modern LCD projectors usually come with the necessary video connections to facilitate the process of making a connection. With an Apple computer, however, an extra adapter is needed to connect the LCD projector directly to the system.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the type of display port your MacBook or Apple computer has (see Resources) and purchase the necessary DVI, VGA, or HDMI adapter if your MacBook did not come with one.

    • 2

Start with your MacBook or Apple computer powered off and connect the one end of the adapter to the computer and the other end to the video cable. Turn the LCD Projector on, then power on your MacBook or Apple computer.

    • 3

Wait for the MacBook or Apple computer to automatically detect the new hardware component that is attached.

    • 4

Access the Display preferences if your MacBook doesn't automatically detect the LCD projector. Click the "Apple" logo in the top left, click "System Preferences" then "Displays." Click the "Show Displays in Menu Bar" option and select "Display Mirroring" from the menu bar's drop-down menu. From here, you can also adjust the resolution of your computer and the LCD Projector.
