How to Make Creative Girl Friendship Bracelet With Looms
Friendship bracelets signify a bond. While there are many types of bracelets given as tokens of friendship, one of the easiest is a yarn bracelet that you weave on a simple disc loom. In this variation, the addition of beads, charms and decorative trinkets will give a basic woven bracelet creative flare for girls of all ages will admire.
Things You'll Need
- 8 strands of 4-ply worsted weight cotton yarn cut to 18-inch lengths
- Beads, charms, or other small trinkets
- Braiding disc loom with 8 notches
- Yarn needle
Instructions
-
-
1
Hold the yarn strands together, lining up the ends evenly. Tie an overhand knot in the strands about 1 inch from the end.
-
2
Push the knot and one strand of yarn through the hole in the center of the disc loom. The single strand will simply hang from the knot until Step 6.
-
-
3
Turn the disc so the knot is facing away from you, and slip each of the seven strands of yarn firmly into a notch on the disc, leaving one notch empty. Pull strands snugly into the notches so that they lie flat across the disc. The strands will look like spokes on a wheel.
-
4
Hold the disc so the empty notch is positioned at the top. Pull the strand of yarn out of the notch on the right side of the bottom notch, and slip that strand into the empty notch at the top of the disc.
-
5
Rotate the disc so the empty notch is at the top. Again, pull the strand from the notch to the right of the bottom notch, and slip it into the empty top notch. Repeat these steps until your bracelet, which forms on the opposite side of the disc, reaches the desired length.
-
6
To remove the bracelet, pull all of the yarn strands from the disc. Tie an overhand end knot in the strands where the braiding stops.
-
7
Thread 2 inches of the remaining loose strand of yarn through a yarn needle. Guide the needle through a bead or trinket, pushing the bead down the strand until it rests against the bracelet.
-
8
Poke the needle through a few of the woven strands of the bracelet and back out, like a sewing stitch. Pull tightly to secure the bead to the bracelet.
-
9
Add another bead or trinket to the strand, and repeat the process of sewing decorations to the bracelet until you reach the end of the bracelet.
-
10
Tie the end of the threading strand firmly around the knot at the end of the bracelet. Now line up the 8 yarn ends and tie another overhand knot about 1/2 inch from the end knot.
-
11
Trim loose ends on both sides of the bracelet to about one-quarter inch in length. Push the single end knot through the strands between the double end knots as the bracelet closure.
