Avoid pressing your sensitive silk garments with a hot iron.

For a sheer, fashionable look, silk is an ideal fabric. Its soft, breathable nature makes it a perfect lining for the inside of bath robes, light jackets and other luxurious garments. Because silk is such a sensitive fabric, it should be laundered with care. To avoid damaging its natural fibers, irons and other wrinkle-removing solutions should not be used. Exposure to humidity is sufficient for removing wrinkles from your silk-lined jacket. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Close your bathroom door and draw a hot bath. If your bathroom has windows, close these as well. The water should be hot enough to produce visible clouds of steam.

    • 2

Allow the bathtub to fill halfway. Hang your silk-lined jacket from the towel hook behind the door. If you have no door hook, suspend the jacket from a hanger hooked to a towel rack.

    • 3

Leave the jacket undisturbed for 20 to 30 minutes. The humidity in the room will release the wrinkles from the silk naturally.

    • 4

Hang the smoothed jacket in your closet. Avoid storing it close to other garments to prevent wrinkles in the future.

Tips & Warnings

  • Refer to the care instructions on your garment before proceeding with any of these steps.

  • A cool iron on its "Silk" setting may be used to smooth out very deep creases in the jacket.

  • Never use a hot iron on a silk garment, as this will cause immediate scorching of the fabric.
