How to Clean a Fake Brick Wall

This includes textured and non-textured molded polymer panels, textured thin brick panels made of cement or another mixture and other materials stenciled to look like brick. Instructions

  1. Washable Interior Fake Brick Walls

    • 1

Remove dust, dirt and other debris from washable, interior fake brick wall surfaces with a long-handled dry static duster or vacuum.

    • 2

Fill a bucket with warm water and add enough mild detergent to the water to make suds. Dip a lint-free microfiber cloth or sponge into the water.

    • 3

Wipe the wall down with the cloth or sponge. Rub any stained areas gently with a soft-bristled scrub brush to remove stains.

    • 4

Rinse the wall with a water-only cloth or sponge when finished and then wipe it dry with microfiber cloths or air-dry it with a fan.

    Washable Exterior Fake Brick Walls

    • 5

Contact the manufacturer of your exterior fake brick wall to determine the correct cleaning method to use on the surface. Many manufacturers recommend rinsing fake brick exterior walls with a hose -- no detergent needed. Others recommend washing and rinsing exterior fake brick with a pressure washer set to the lowest pressure setting.

    • 6

Remove debris from the wall. Brush it away with a broom, blow it away with a leaf blower and/or wash it away with a hose or pressure washer.

    • 7

Scrub stains from surfaces as needed with a soft-bristled scrub brush. Rinse or wash residues from the wall after scrubbing as directed by the manufacturer.

    Non-Washable Fake Brick Walls

    • 8

Dust your non-washable fake brick walls with a dry static duster or vacuum weekly.

    • 9

Dampen a lint-free microfiber cloth or sponge with cool water and blot stained areas to remove stains. If you’re dealing with tough stains or mold, fill a spray bottle with a bleaching agent such as bleach or hydrogen peroxide and lightly spray the area.

    • 10

Wait about two to five minutes for the bleaching agent to break up the stain. Blot or rub the agent and stain from the surface with a damp, water-only cloth.

    • 11

Restore the wall as needed. Free-hand paint or stencil fake brick designs on to the wall in areas where you’ve removed the paint when cleaning or where the paint has naturally faded or worn away.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never use a sponge to clean fake brick made of real brick in “thin brick” form, textured concrete or similar materials, or fake textured grout. The sponge may tear apart.

  • Always test your cleaning agents on an inconspicuous spot on your fake brick wall before use. This is especially important for non-washable walls, as you will need to dampen or wet the surface to remove a stain or mold and any moisture may bleed or remove paint on the wall, if not sealed, or wrinkle or tear the surface.

  • Always wear a mask and gloves when removing mold from fake brick walls.
