How to Customize a Slice From Photoshop in Fireworks

You can work with Photoshop slice data in the Fireworks program.

The Adobe Creative Suite software package includes the Photoshop and Fireworks applications. Adobe Photoshop is designed for digital image professionals who need to edit pictures or graphics, while Adobe Fireworks is intended for Web designers who want to build graphic-based elements. You can use the slice tool in Photoshop to divide an image into different sections but you must convert the file to HTML in order to customize it further in Fireworks.

• Adobe CS3 or later

Instructions

1. Launch Adobe Photoshop and open the image file that contains slice information.

2. Go to "File" in the top menubar and choose the "Save for Web & Devices" option.

3. Press "Save" in the pop-up window that appears.

4. Choose where you want to save the converted version of the file and set the file type to "HTML and Images."

5. Choose "Default Settings" in the "Settings" field and "All User Slices" in the "Slices" field.

6. Hit the "Save" button to convert the sliced image to the HTML format.

7. Launch Adobe Fireworks, go to the "File" menu and select "Reconstitute Table."

8. Highlight the HTML file you just created and click "Open" to start working with it in Fireworks.
