You can use the slice tool in Photoshop to divide an image into different sections but you must convert the file to HTML in order to customize it further in Fireworks.

Instructions

      Launch Adobe Photoshop and open the image file that contains slice information.

      Go to "File" in the top menubar and choose the "Save for Web & Devices" option.

      Press "Save" in the pop-up window that appears.

      Choose where you want to save the converted version of the file and set the file type to "HTML and Images."

      Choose "Default Settings" in the "Settings" field and "All User Slices" in the "Slices" field.

      Hit the "Save" button to convert the sliced image to the HTML format.

      Launch Adobe Fireworks, go to the "File" menu and select "Reconstitute Table."

      Highlight the HTML file you just created and click "Open" to start working with it in Fireworks.
