Adding fabric to wooden letters can give them texture and color.

Decoupage is a French term that indicates the process of decorating. The process is very common using paper, but fabric can also be used to decorate surfaces. Fabric, with the variety of colors and prints available, can personalize and liven up simple wooden letters. The fabric can be matched to the other upholstered items in the room where the letter will hang or be used to add a touch of texture to plain letters.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the fabric on a flat hard surface, right-side-down.

    • 2

Put the wooden letter face-down on the fabric and pull it over the letter to the back side. Leave enough fabric to cover the letter and cut away the excess. At the corners and sharp angles of the letter, cut a vertical line so that the two sides of the fabric meet at the corner and there is no excess fabric.

    • 3

Paint the wooden letter with decoupage glue and place it face-down on the fabric. Pull the fabric around to the back side of the letter. Smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles with your hands.

    • 4

Paint two or three layers of decoupage glue on the fabric on the letter. Leave the letter to dry in between coats.
