Instructions

    • 1

Scatter desiccant packets around your basement. These are packets filled with material, such as a silica gel, that absorbs moisture. You have likely seen them in vitamin bottles and shipping containers. Do not place desiccants anywhere your pets or children can come into contact with them as they are often poisonous.

    • 2

Monitor your basement weekly to see if the desiccants are still absorbing moisture. They will eventually reach capacity and no longer absorb water.

    • 3

Replace full desiccants with new ones when you feel humidity returning to your basement.

    • 4

Recycle your desiccants. Empty the desiccant from the bags into a microwave-safe dish. Microwave the dish on high for six to eight minutes. Place the desiccants in an airtight jar immediately after and allow them to cool. Refill and reseal the packets with the regenerated desiccant material.
