How to Make a Bear Out of Paper Triangles

How to Make a Bear Out of Paper Triangles thumbnail
Triangles can give the impression of shaggy fur around the bear's head.

Many crafts create bears out of curved shapes, so one made from hundreds of paper triangles can really stand out. You can use any kind of paper you please, including construction paper, scrapbook paper, card stock and poster board, and either scissors or various sizes of paper punches to cut out the triangles you will need. Although this craft uses shades of brown, you can also vary the colors of your paper to make any one of the eight bear species currently found throughout the world.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a large circle on a piece of white paper as a template for the bear's face. Add two semicircles at the top for ears.

    • 2

Cut out triangles of various sizes and shapes from the medium-brown paper and glue them on the bear's face and ears at different angles until no white is visible. Glue additional triangles onto these, if desired, to create a three-dimensional look.

    • 3

Measure the distance from one edge of the circle to the other and multiply it by 3.14 to calculate the circumference.

    • 4

Divide the circumference by 100 and draw 100 identical triangles that have this height on the dark brown paper. Cut them out and glue them around the outline of the bear's head, with their points facing the same direction around the circle.

    • 5

Draw 40 identical triangles on the dark brown paper that are half the size of the the ones that form the outline around the bear's head. Cut out these triangles and arrange them into an oval on the lower third of the head to form the snout. When you are pleased with the size and shape, glue them into place.

    • 6

Draw two large isosceles triangles on white paper, two medium-size triangles on dark brown paper and two small triangles on black paper. Make all the triangles twice as tall as they are wide. Glue each black triangle on top of a dark brown one, and the dark brown one on top of a white one to create the bear's eyes. Glue them onto the head.

    • 7

Draw a large, black isosceles triangle and glue it in the center of the snout with its point down to form the nose.

    • 8

Draw a smile below the nose in black marker.
