Sashes can serve as bridesmaid's gifts.

Sashes are simple to make and an easy way to add some pizazz to your bridesmaids' appearance. Use the sashes to accentuate your bridesmaids' waists and create more visual interest. If your bridesmaids all have different-colored dresses, choose the same neutral-colored ribbon for each. If they all have the same color of dress, you can choose different color ribbons or differentiate the sashes with embellishments. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure each bridesmaid's natural waist. Add two inches to her waist size and cut the length in ribbon. The added length will be used where the ribbon overlaps and fastens. Make sure the cut is at a 90-degree angle.

    • 2

Cut 3/4-inch long pieces of Velcro. Laying the ribbon flat, align the Velcro with the edge of the right side and glue. Next, align the Velcro with the edge of the left side and glue to the back so that when the ribbon is wrapped around the bridesmaid's waist, it will attach without being seen.

    • 3

Lay the ribbon front-side up, once the glue for the Velcro is dry. Lay out the rhinestones one inch apart across the top and bottom, then glue and let dry. Another option is to attach one large fabric flower or a series of small ones directly in the center of the sash.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're giving the sash as a gift, trying using a jeweled brooch instead of rhinestones or flowers as embellishments. The brooch can be detached and used later as a fashion accessory. If you don't feel like dealing with the Velcro, add at least 12 inches to the length of ribbon and just tie in a bow.

  • Don't use too much glue when attaching the Velcro or embellishments to avoid the glue leaking from the sides and being seen. Also, make sure you let the glue fully dry between steps to ensure the pieces stay securely attached.
