How to Prevent Recording in Skype

Skype records in two basic ways: through an audio input device and by storing the chat and calling history of each contact. The history is recorded and stored on the Recent tab on the main screen. Audio recording cannot be disabled through Skype, but the chat history can. This prevents others from seeing who you've made contact with, keeping your conversations private.

Instructions

1. Launch Skype and go to "Skype," "Privacy."

2. Click "Clear History."

3. Click the drop-down menu where it says "Keep History For" and select "No History."

4. Click "Save" to confirm.

Tips & Warnings

• To disable your microphone, right-click the audio icon in the task bar, then click "Recording Devices." Right-click the device and then click "Disable."

• You can see which recording device Skype is using by going to "Tools," "Options," "Audio Settings."
