How to Make a Butterfly Design With Eyeliner

When Halloween rolls around or when there is a county fair, it's time to break out the face painting creativity. Even if you are not normally artistically inclined, you can master the face-painted butterfly, which will greatly endear you to your young daughter. Be sure to practice, though, on a piece of paper, before transferring your artwork to the canvas of her young skin.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw the outline of the butterfly, using eyeliner pencil, on a piece of paper. The thorax of the insect will be about as wide as your daughter's nose, while its antennae will be about as long as the height of her forehead.

    • 2

Experiment with different kinds of wings. The upper wings will extend from the bridge of her nose out to the outer corner of her eyes. You may model your wings on those of an actual butterfly, or you can create scalloped wings, for a more glamorous effect.

Transfer your design to your daughter's face with the eyeliner. First, draw the thorax, which extends from the space between her eyebrows to the bridge of her nose. Draw the upper wings to encompass her eyes and some of her upper cheeks. The lower wings should be slightly smaller, encompassing a great deal of the rest of her cheeks, and connecting back to the thorax.

Color in the butterfly. Enlist the help of your daughter in picking out face paint colors, and use a face painting sponge to apply paint. If you are short on face paint for any reason, you may use regular makeup, such as lipstick and eyeliner.

Decorate the butterfly further by adding face glitter to the antennae and wings.
