How to Paint Faux Brick & Crafts
Painting faux brick on walls or on craft projects adds interest and texture to any surface. Surfaces painted with a faux brick technique do not need to be completely smooth, as this technique hides minor imperfections. However, they should be free from patterns, textures and holes. Use this method to finish a wall in your home, design the outside of a doll house, or add interest to the headboard of a bed.

Instructions

1
Use painter's tape to tape off areas, such as baseboards and ceilings, that you do not want to get paint on.
-
2
Use a roller for large surfaces, and a brush for smaller surfaces. Paint on the base gray paint, completely covering the entire area you wish to create the faux brick look on.
-
-
3
Paint a second coat of gray once the first coat is dry if any color shows through the paint from the surafce beneath. This gray base will be the faux cement holding the faux bricks in place.
-
4
Let the base coat dry for 24 hours.
-
5
Starting at the bottom of the area you wish to create the faux brick look, sketch bricks freehand or use a brick stencil. Work your way across and then up, in horizontal rows. If you prefer a more perfected look, use painter's tape to create grid-like rectangles on the surface.
-
6
Pour the glaze into a bowl and dip the sponge into the glaze.
-
7
Dab off the excess paint onto a newspaper, then lightly dab at the first brick with the sponge. Start in the top corner of the brick. Continue dabbing the sponge on the brick until the entire brick is glazed.
-
8
Continue glazing the bricks until all of the bricks are glazed.
-
9
Let the paint dry for 24 hours before removing any painter's tape.
