How to Use iPod Touch If I Have Ubuntu Without a Jailbreak

If you have an iPod Touch, you do not have to jailbreak the device to use it with Ubuntu. The Banshee program installed with Ubuntu can sync your iPod Touch in much the same way as you sync in iTunes. You can even create playlists with Banshee and add them to your iPod.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your iPod Touch to your Ubuntu computer using the USB cable supplied with the device.

    • 2

Click "Yes" when a pop-up menu appears and asks if you want to open Banshee. Wait for Banshee to open and scan the contents of your iPod Touch. If this is the first time you’ve used Banshee, it will also read the contents of your Ubuntu Music folder.

    • 3

Drag and drop a song, album or artist from its music folder listing in Banshee to the iPod Touch icon on the left of the Banshee window. The music folder is the default folder when Banshee opens.

    • 4

Click the "Media" menu and then click "New Playlist." Drag songs into the playlist to add them. Drag the playlist to the iPod Touch icon to add it to the portable device.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can find other programs to manage your iPod Touch in the Ubuntu Software Center.
