How to Duplicate a Tab in Gimp

The GIMP, or "GNU Image Manipulation Program," program interface consists of a main artboard area and a series of windows that contain docked dialog boxes containing tools, color swatches, and other image editing elements. These dialog boxes are accessible through tabs that are displayed in a row across the top of the window. You can duplicate any tab by clicking the tab menu button and adding the same dialog box to each window, allowing you to access a docked dialog box from multiple windows.

Instructions

    • 1

      Launch GIMP.

    • 2

Click the "Windows" menu, then click "Dockable Dialogs."

    • 3

Click on a dockable dialog box name to open a window containing the chosen dialog box.

    • 4

Click the tab menu button. The tab menu button is a small button with a left-facing arrow that is located on the right side of the window, just below the tabs.

    • 5

      Click "Add Tab."

    • 6

Click to select the dockable dialog box chosen in Step 3 to duplicate the tab.

Tips & Warnings

  • Any changes made to the dialog box in a different window or another instance of the dockable dialog box will be duplicated in all instances of the same dialog box. For example, selecting a new type of brush in one "Brush" dialog box will select the same brush type in all open duplicated "Brush" dialog boxes.
