How to Get Gingerbread on the Nook Color
The Nook Color only officially supports the Android 2.2 Froyo update through Barnes & Noble at time of publication. If you want to use a later version of the Android operating system, such as 2.3 Gingerbread, you need to unlock your Nook Color through the rooting process. A root removes the security restrictions on the Nook Color and allows you to update the device's operating system to 2.3 or later Android versions.
