How to Drill Elk Lamps

Male elk, like deer and moose, have antlers, which can be saved and carefully arranged in a lamp pedestal. You can make an antler lamp for a hunting cabin, rustic outdoorsy room or as a craft project. Once created, an elk antler lamp will last for years.

Instructions

    • 1

Arrange the elk antlers on top of each other so that they rest in place and are stable. The bottom set of antlers will serve as the lamp's base, so make sure it is arranged in a stable, flat position.

    • 2

Place all-purpose glue on each set of antlers where they touch, then press the antlers together. Allow the glue to dry.

    • 3

Choose a drill bit large enough for your lamp fixture's cord and insert it into your drill. Pour water on the elk antlers, which will prevent dust from forming while you drill. Place the drill bit on the top antler and begin drilling slowly. You may have to drill at an angle in order to penetrate the next antler in the set. If the anters aren't perfectly aligned, drill a hole in each set of antlers as near to the center as possible, then weave your lamp's cord through each hole.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be creative. You can arrange the antlers in any combination you'd like.
