How to Make a Box for Watches
A watch box is similar to a jewelry box, but is intended for watches instead of necklaces, bracelet and rings. Watch boxes are available from jewelry stores and online shops, but may be expensive or unavailable in your preferred style. You can create your own watch box to house your watches when they're not in use or to display them as part of your collection.

1
Lay a sheet of wood on a work bench. You can make a watch box from any wood of any thickness. A thin board, such as 1/8-inch thick pine, will be lighter than a thicker board, such as 1/2-inch thick hickory, but will also be less durable.
-
2
Measure and mark the dimensions of the bottom of the box on the sheet of wood using a tape measure and pencil. For example, if you want a 10-inch by 10-inch box, measure and cut a 10-inch by 10-inch piece of wood.

3
Measure and cut two pieces of wood that are the length of the box's base and 4 inches in height. For example, if the box's base is 10 inches long, cut two pieces of wood that are 10 inches long and 4 inches wide. These are two of the box's four walls. Cut two pieces of wood that are as long as the base's width and 4 inches wide; these are the two other walls.
-
4
Nail the wall boards to the box's bottom wood piece using small wood nails and a hammer. Place one of the long walls against a long edge of the box's base. Tack the wall in place with nails. Repeat with the remaining boards. You should now have a box.

5
Measure the top of the box to get the lid dimensions, which will be slightly larger than the bottom board dimensions. For example, if the bottom board is 10 inches by 10 inches and each wall 1/2 inch thick, the lid's dimensions will be 11 inches by 11 inches. Measure and cut the lid from a sheet of wood.
-
6
Place the lid onto the box. Line the lid's edges up with the box's edges. Screw a hinge onto one side of the lid, with one hinge on the right side and one hinge on the left side. Hold the hinge in place. Insert one of its screws into the hinge's hole and press firmly to embed it in the wood, then screw it in place using a screwdriver. Repeat until both hinges are attached.
-
7
Cut a piece of cardboard that is as long as the inside of the watch box. Insert the cardboard into the wood box so that it is vertical. Mark the cardboard where it meets the box's edges, then cut the cardboard horizontally where you marked it. Measure increments across the cardboard lengthwise that are slightly wider than your watch pillows. Cut a 1-inch slot in the cardboard at each mark. Insert the cardboard into the box. Repeat this process, making each new cardboard piece as long as the box is wide. Slide these pieces of cardboard into the slots on the first piece of cardboard to form rectangular slots inside the box.
-
8
Remove the cardboard. Paint the watch box with spirits, stain or paint if desired. Allow the box to dry thoroughly, then reinsert the cardboard.

9
Slide your watches onto the watch pillows, then insert each pillow into the slots inside the watch box.
