Attaching your mobile directly to the side of the crib helps you combat high ceilings.

When decorating their nurseries, many parents seek to create space that is warm and relaxing for their soon-to-arrive infants. If your nursery is a high-ceiling space, creating this cozy feel may present an added challenge. When making your nursery ready-for-baby, capitalize off of the natural appeal of your high ceilings and craft a decoratively appealing area for your bundle of joy to fill. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Create a mural on the largest wall in the space. Select an outdoor scene or other scene that fits with the theme of the nursery and paint this scene on the wall or have the scene painted by a professional. Because your wall is sizable, you should be able to choose a scene that includes both land and sky, giving the feel of an open wall that looks out onto an enchanting world.

Paint stars onto the high ceiling to create the feel of the night sky. Cover the ceiling with a blue hue and add decorative stars in gold paint. Add other celestial bodies, such as planets or the moon to make the space even more attractive.

    • 3

Choose tall furnishings to draw attention to the ceiling height. Select a sizable dresser or large hutch in which to stow baby’s things. Though it won’t be an issue until your infant takes her first steps, it is wise to bolt these tall pieces to the walls upon which they rest as they could present a hazard once your infant starts pulling herself up and climbing.

    • 4

Place lamps around the space to use instead of harsh overhead light. Because the overhead lighting in your space will come from high above, it may appear too bright for a nursery. To avoid this, place lamps atop dressers or other tables and rely upon these.

Attach a mobile to the crib side. Instead of hanging your mobile from the ceiling, use a plastic or metal bracket and suspend it from the crib itself. Many mobiles come with these crib attachment brackets. If yours doesn’t, purchase one at a baby needs specialty store.
