You can create the spiral appearance of a seashell in crochet.

Crocheting is a versatile yarn craft that you can use to make any manner of items, from hair ties to pet clothing. One design that you can make in crochet is a swirled shell. Much like a seashell, a swirled crochet pattern begins at a center point, from which lines radiate in a spiral pattern. You can implement this pattern to make hats, shirts, scarves and even stuffed animals. Despite its fancy appearance, the swirled shell pattern is simple to do if you are familiar with chaining and single crocheting in the round.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a chain of four with the yarn. Join the ends together with a slipstitch.

    • 2

Crochet six single crochet stitches into the center of the round. Do not join the two ends of the first round.

    • 3

Crochet another round of single crochets in the previous round's stitches. Continue crocheting rounds until your spiral has reached the desired circumference, but never join the ends, or you will have concentric circles instead of a spiral pattern.

    • 4

Cut and tie the yarn. Weave the tails into the spiral with the craft needle.

Tips & Warnings

  • For more pronounced spiral lines, crochet in the back loop only of the previous round's stitches.
