Instructions

    • 1

Sharpen a pencil eyeliner to a sharp point. Beauty advice suggests applying it briefly to the back of your hand to slightly blunt the thin point so it glides on smoothly. Use your non-dominant hand to gently pull the skin of your eyelid below the brow, tightening and flattening the area on your eyelid and making a smoother surface to draw the line.

Lean close to the mirror and tilt your head back slightly so you look down at the mirror. Apply the liner in short strokes from the corner of your lid closest to your nose outward as close to the lash line as possible. According to Slideshare's ultimate makeup guide, shorter strokes create a more fluid line, especially when hands tend to be shaky. Repeat this procedure for your other eye.

Pull the skin below your eye down gently with your index and middle finger to reveal a lighter area beneath your lower lashes. Tip your head back slightly, look down at the mirror and apply liner using short strokes from the inner part of the area under your eye moving outward.

Dampen a cotton swab and twist the end to a point. Correct mistakes and thin lines using the tip of the swab. Lightly reapply liner in missed areas, using short, feathery strokes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Apply concealer, foundation, powder and eyeshadow before applying eyeliner to give it staying power.

  • Throw away liquid eyeliner older than three months and eyeliner pencils older than two years to avoid eye infections.
