The style and color of the frame can make a difference in the appearance of your finished project.

Latch hook rugs are made by looping yarn through the holes on a mesh canvas. You can buy latch hook rug kits that come with a mesh canvas, precut yarn, a latch hook and instructions. After completing a latch hook rug, you can either turn it into a pillow, use it as a rug or frame it and hang it on your wall for display.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the latch hook rug with your ruler. Also measure the width of the border of plain canvas around the latch hook design.

    • 2

Use a wooden frame that meets the measurements from step one.

    • 3

Bend the prongs up on the back of the frame. Push up on the glass from the front of the frame to pop the glass and backing out of place. Set them aside.

    • 4

Place the latch hook rug face down inside the frame. Trim the edges of the latch hook as necessary to get a good fit in the frame.

    • 5

Flip the frame over while you hold the latch hook rug inside it. Check that the rug is straight and looks the way you want it to look.

    • 6

Turn the frame back over. Use a staple gun and place a staple at each corner. Staple every 2 inches all the way around the frame.

    • 7

Set the backing into the frame, and push the prongs back down to secure it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place masking tape around the edges of the mesh canvas to prevent fraying.

  • Use caution when working with staple guns and staples to avoid injuries.
