How to Gain Elasticity in Hair
Hair serves a physiological function. It provides warmth, disperses sweat and protects the sensitive scalp beneath. Hair also serves a more superficial function. Hairstyling has been a common method of individualistic expression for thousands of years. However, the methods and treatments applied to hair during styling can rob it of its elasticity. Hair can be treated to give the appearance of elasticity; however, gaining actual elasticity requires time and patience because healthy hair must grow out and replace the damaged hair. Does this Spark an idea?

Avoid chemical treatments for several weeks or months. Perms, relaxers and hair coloring damage the hair and rob it of elasticity. Elasticity is gained over time. Hair that is damaged must grow out so that healthy hair can replace it.

2
Use the proper comb or brush for your hair type while waiting for the healthy hair to grow out. Fine-tooth combs should be used on thin, straight hair. People with thicker, wavier hair should use a wide-toothed comb or a pick. The wrong comb or brush can pull the hair in damaging directions and rob it of elasticity.

Shampoo and condition the hair regularly with products that contain high amounts of protein and keratin. After washing, apply a restorative hair mask. The hair mask will help restore some of the damage done by chemical treatments. However, these treatments do not give the hair true elasticity because it has already been damaged. They will improve the appearance of the damaged hair until the healthy hair grows out.

Trim the damaged portions of the hair after several weeks. Do this yourself or go to a salon. New, healthy hair will have more elasticity.
