How to Make Dreadlocked Hair Look Clean
It is not only important to make dreadlocks appear clean, but for the hair itself to be as healthy and strong as possible. Improper or irregular care of dreads can cause the hair to break. A common misconception is that cleaning dreads will disentangle the locks when, in fact, clean dreads hold the coiled shape better than dirty dreads. Does this Spark an idea?

Gently massage all areas of the scalp with the tips of your fingers to help release the scalp's natural oils.

Wash using a residue-free, unscented shampoo at least once a week. Delicately work the water and soap into the dreads, and squeeze the excess out. Wash more often if you are active to prevent sweat buildup.

Use a conditioner on at least the tips of the hair to strengthen the ends of the locks.

Maintain proper use of rubber bands to prevent loose hairs from sticking out. Avoid putting bands on too tight around the dreadlocks, as this will cause the hair to dent.
