How to Fix a Zipper That Has Pulled Apart in a Purse
Zippers are very simple mechanical devices, but they're incredibly useful. They keep jackets, purses, tents and backpacks more secure than buttons or ties. They also work faster, making the opening and closing of these devices simpler. One common problem that occurs with zippers is that they deform over time, causing their main function -- closing the two sides of teeth -- to fail. You will see this occur when you go to zip something, only to have your device still open after executing the zipping motion. Fortunately, this is a simple fix that takes only a minute or two. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Pull your zipper all the way to the end of its line, just as if you were zipping your purse completely closed. You should almost feel it "click" into place.
-
2
Adjust your slip-joint pliers to the large size.

3
Locate the sides of the zipper slider that attach to the teeth. Place your pliers over one side of the slider and squeeze down firmly. Don't press too hard though, or you may damage the slider.

4
Squeeze down on the other side of the slider firmly with the pliers.
-
5
Zip your purse back up. The zipper should now be closed. If it isn't, then repeat the process a few times until it closes properly.
