How to Make a Hair Mask at Home for Relaxed Hair
Hair masks infuse your hair with moisture, and can repair the dryness and damage caused by relaxers. While store-bought hair masks and salon treatments can get expensive, home recipes alleviate costs by using items most people have in their refrigerator. Additionally, most at-home treatments use natural rather than synthetic ingredients, which enhance the luxuriousness of the treatment as well as protect the environment. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
-
1
Peel and pit the avocado.
-
2
Mash the avocado and the egg in a large mixing bowl.
-
-
3
Include other ingredients, depending on your desired result. For example, Spa Magazine recommends a banana, 1 tbsp. of sunflower juice and 1/2 tbsp. of freshly squeezed lime juice for shine. You can also add scented oil, if you desire. Do not use mayonnaise on relaxed hair; it could contain oils, which weigh down the hair.
-
4
Mix coconut oil into your hair mask. The amount of coconut oil you add depends on the amount of other ingredients you add. The more you add of other ingredients, the less coconut oil you need. Coconut oil repairs hair more thoroughly than olive oil.
-
5
Apply the thoroughly mixed mask to your hair, covering all hair, including root, shaft and ends.
-
6
Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap. If you do not have a plastic shower cap, you can use a plastic bag instead. Let the mixture sit on the hair for at least 30 minutes, but no more than one hour.
-
7
Wash and shampoo your hair normally.
-
8
Repeat the process two times a week. If you used vinegar in your mask, wait three weeks before reapplying.

Tips & Warnings
Different chemicals, even those from natural foods, can react badly with the skin or hair, changing hair color or even burning the scalp. Always test your mixture on a small section of hair on the back of the scalp before applying to the entire head.
