Making a bracelet provides an opportunity for beginners to familiarize themselves with basic stitches needed to tackle more complicated projects. Instructions

  1. Instructions

    • 1

Measure your wrist with a cloth measuring tape. Write the measurement on a notepad for future reference.

    • 2

Cast on nine stitches, using the long-tail cast-on method or other cast-on method of your choice.

    • 3

Knit one, purl one. Continue the pattern to the last stitch on the row. Knit one and then turn the work.

    • 4

Purl one and knit one. Continue to the last stitch on the row. Purl the last remaining stitch before turning your work.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until the bracelet measures about half an inch more than your wrist measurement.

    • 6

Knit four stitches in the seed-stitch pattern. Cast off three stitches to make a buttonhole. Work the remaining stitches on the left needle. You will have three stitches straddling the newly formed button hole.

    • 7

Continue knitting in seed stitch until you reach the buttonhole. Cast on three stitches, using the backward-loop cast-on method before knitting the remaining stitches on the left needle.

    • 8

Knit four to five more rows in the seed-stitch pattern more before casting off.

    • 9

Cast off the stitches. Cut a 12-inch tail of yarn and thread it through the last remaining stitch. Tighten to secure. Weave in the ends. Complete your bracelet by sewing on a button.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use fingerling weight yarn that contains nylon, as it will provide stretch and bounce for your bracelet. This pattern makes for a good sock yarn stash-buster project, as you only need a small amount of yarn.
