How to Add Wi-Fi Hot Spots to an iPod? thumbnail
The iPod Touch connects to both secured and unsecured wireless hot spots.

The iPod Touch is equipped with wireless network connectivity hardware, allowing you to acquire an Internet connection using a Wi-Fi signal. Public Wi-Fi networks -- often referred to as Wi-Fi hot spots -- are available in a range of locations and venues, such as city centers, coffee shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and more. Add a Wi-Fi hot spot to your iPod Touch's settings, and the device will connect to the network whenever it is in range, granting you Internet access while you are out and about.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to an area where you anticipate the presence of public Wi-Fi hot spots.

    • 2

Launch the "Settings" application on the iPod Touch and tap the "Wi-Fi" button.

    • 3

Slide the "Wi-Fi" switch to "On" to activate Wi-Fi reception on the iPod Touch. The iPod Touch automatically scans for Wi-Fi hot spots within range.

    • 4

Tap a hot spot that you want to add to the iPod Touch in the "Choose a Network" box. The iPod Touch establishes a connection with the hot spot's Wi-Fi router.

    • 5

Enter the passcode for the Wi-Fi hot spot if requested and then tap the "Join" button. If the hot spot is unsecured, the iPod Touch connect automatically.

Tips & Warnings

  • The iPod Touch remembers the passcode and connection details for any Wi-Fi hot spot you've successfully connected to, and it reconnects automatically next time you are in range.

  • Ask the Wi-Fi hot spot operator for the passcode if the network is secured.
